Robert Dudley Edwards and Galway
How does a state historian in the capital stay in touch with the community on the other side of the country? Neasa gives a short talk on Robert Dudley Edwards and his contact with Galway and the hidden Ireland, given as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society (22 March 2025).
Neasa MacErlean: In these perilous times, we can use Daniel O’Connell’s great influence to argue case for a more democratic world (Irish Independent, 15 February 2025) – Robert Dudley Edwards only work of biography was of Daniel O’Connell. It revived the latter’s reputation. The two men were not dissimilar in personality type – capable of being both inspirational but also waspish.
